According to the English-Oxford dictionary, an appendix is a small tube of tissue attached to the lower end of the large intestine. Modern science claims that the small tube's purpose is unknown, dormant, pointless, silly, catatonic, feeble, and yet still bulbous. Bulbous! That is, however, according to most sources. But a Science Daily article written in August of 2009 claimed researchers concluded the puzzle of the dormant appendix by researching it under spectacles and scope. It indeed harbors helpful bacteria, which provides assistance in helping us overcome horrible intestinal downers like "the runs". Yet it is the second definition of this word — the definition I choose to focus on for this blog's central purpose — which claims that an appendix is a section of additional information at the end of a book. In other words, follow the helpful asterisk, and the knowledge of all historical figures and places will prevail.
